1. Date of Event – Venue – Organization

The ENNIA Banco Di Caribe CURAÇAO YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 (CYC 2008) will be held from January 2nd to 4th, 2008.

The race venue will be Zanzibar, Jan Thiel Beach, Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles.

The CYC 2008 will be organized by the Foundation Youth Sailing Netherlands Antilles (www.ysna.info) with assistance of the Foundation Youth Sailing Curaçao (www.ysco.org).

2. Competing Classes

The following YOUTH classes will be competing in the CYC 2008:  

  • Optimist Class (age groups as per USODA system, see www.USODA.org )

  • Optimist Green fleet (as per USODA system, see www.USODA.org )

  • Splash Class

  • YSCO-Optimist Class (Local class for YSCO-members only).

The organizing authority (OA) may divide the Splash and Optimist Class in two fleets. The decision of the OA is final.

* Note that 2 races will be held consecutively with no break in-between ashore. Lunch break is ashore.

No warning signal will be made after 12:00 hours on Friday, January 4th, 2008.

4. Entry

Competitors shall enter no later than December 1st, 2007 through the CYC 2008 website (www.cyc2008.org). Signed Entry Forms shall be handed to the Organization at registration on January 1st.

Entries may be accepted after the closing date at the discretion of the Organization, but will be subject to an additional entry fee (see NOR 6)

5. Entry Confirmation 

When an entry is accepted, a confirmation email will be send. This can be seen as a confirmation of the acceptance of your entry, but does not confirm the payment of any entry fees.

Entry fees received after the entry closing date (see NOR 4) and still accepted will be subject to an additional fee:  25% EXTRA.

Included in Entry fee:

  • lunches on Tuesday 2nd to  Friday, 4th

  • free non-alcoholic drinks and water while on the water

  • nicely filled goody bag with shirt

  • one dinner

7. Charter boats and boat transportation

For the CYC 2008 there will be no transport of boats from Europe

Charter boats are available by invitation only. Participants can apply for an invitation. Participants from Curaçao and Bonaire normally do not fit the criteria.

8. Rules 

The CYC 2008 will be sailed under the:

  • 2005 – 2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)

  • Current Class Rules of IODA (current Optimist Class Rules) for Optimist Class

  • Current Class Rules of SCIA (current Splash Class Rules) for Splash Class

  • Current Standard YSCO-Optimist Class Rules (local class for YSCO members only)

  • Final Notice of Race (unless amended by the Sailing Instructions)

  • Sailing Instructions (SI)

The CYC 2008 is designated Category A in accordance with the ISAF Advertising Code. Competitors may be required to display Event sponsor’s name(s) and hull numbers.

For the use of Splash Class Rule C. 7 CREW our current yachting season ends July 31, 2008.

9. Eligibility

Competitors shall comply with RRS 75.

10. Sailing Instructions

The Sailing Instructions will be posted on www.cyc2008.org and on the official Notice Board.

11. Race Office 

The Race Office is situated at Zanzibar.

12. Racing Area 

The racing area will be for Splash and Optimist on open sea in front of Zanzibar and for YSCO-Optimist and Optimist Green Fleet, right in front of Zanzibar in the bay and if conditions allow just outside the bay on the sea.

13. Courses to be Sailed

The courses to be sailed will be Windward-Leeward or otherwise as described in the Sailing Instructions.

14. Safety

In addition to the specific Class Rules, each competitor shall carry a whistle attached to his/her clothing or body.

Competitors not complying with this instruction may be attributed a penalty of five points for each race of the day on which they have failed to observe this instruction.

15. Personal Buoyancy

All competitors shall bring their own personal buoyancy aid, which shall be worn at all times whilst afloat.

16. Measurement

Optimist Look-alikes are permitted to start in the Optimist Green Fleet.

All the boats may carry national letters and sail numbers in contravention of the Class Rules and RRS 77, as long as the sail identification is unique and distinguishable.

17. Scoring

The scoring system will be in accordance with RRS Appendix A.

A total of 3 races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

A first discard will be made after 5 races, and a second discard will be made after 8 completed races.

18. Support Boats

There will be no official support boats supplied by the organizing authority. However there will be several safety boats and spectator boats on the water. Parents and coaches are kindly invited to board as long as space is available and behavior acceptable.

19. Prizes

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each Class.

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd in Optimist Class age groups as per USODA system

  • 1st  girl in each class

20. Insurance 

Competitors must carry a third party liability insurance covering all risks. Insurance certificates may be inspected at registration.

21. Liability

Participants participate entirely at their own risk and responsibility. See also rule RRS 4, Decision to Race.

The Organizing Authority and any other party involved in the organization of the CYC 2008 accepts no liability whatsoever for any injury, death, damage, loss or claim, whether personal or material, incurred by or inflicted to the participants before, during, or after the CYC 2008.

24. Official language 

English shall be the official language of the CYC 2008.

25. Right to use name and likeness

By participating in the CYC 2008 a competitor automatically grants to the organizing authority and its sponsors the right in perpetuity to make, use and show, from time to time at their discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or filmed television and other reproductions of him or her during the period of the competition without compensation.

26. Sailing conditions

Expected weather conditions within the racing area:

  • Average daytime temperature:      28 – 32 °C  /  82 - 89 °F

  • Average water temperature:          25 °C  /  78 °F

  • Average nighttime temperature:     24 °C  /  75 °F

  • Average prevailing wind strength:  12 - 25 knots.

27. Food and beverage programme 

Food and beverages are included as shown in NOR 6.

29. Entry to Zanzibar Beach

Participants have free access to the private property of Zanzibar Beach. The number of persons per participant that can accompany the youth participant free of charge will be announced later.
